THE CONFERENCE
We are pleased to announce the 16th Nordic Baltic Femtochemistry Conference (NBFC), to be hosted at the University of Iceland in Reykjavík from June 29 to July 1, 2026.
Ultrafast science is advancing rapidly, driven by breakthroughs in laser technologies and next-generation light sources at synchrotron and X-ray Free Electron Laser facilities. Simultaneously, continuous progress in electronic structure methods and atomic-scale modeling allow increasingly accurate simulations of ultrafast processes in complex molecular and material systems. These developments provide unprecedented insights into electron and nuclear dynamics governing fundamental natural processes, with transformative applications across chemistry and materials science. While femtosecond spectroscopy remains central to this field, the advent of attosecond lasers is now opening new frontiers in the exploration of electronic motion.
The Nordic and Baltic countries play a leading role in ultrafast science, building on cutting-edge facilities and close collaborations, spanning experiment and theory. NBFC 2026 will bring together experts from across the region to share and discuss the latest advances in the field, and foster collaborations within our scientific community. Topics covered will include dynamics in the gas phase, liquids and at surfaces, polaritonic dynamics, as well as energy and charge transfer in biological and artificial systems. The conference will highlight the latest directions in time-resolved optical and X-ray techniques, excited state calculation methods, and quantum dynamics simulations.
We are excited to host this meeting in Reykjavík for the first time, set against the backdrop of Iceland unique natural landscape. We invite both established and early career researchers from the Nordic-Baltic community and beyond to participate. For the program, registration, and abstract submission, please stay tuned to the conference website.
We look forward to welcoming you to Reykjavík for NBFC 2026!
